Toei Animation Co., Ltd., in collaboration with developer Nestopi Co., Ltd., has revealed Re:VER PROJECT -TOKYO-, a survival suspense adventure game releasing on PC later this year. A demo is now available to download and play. The demo was previously limited to gaming events held in Japan, but is now accessible to players worldwide through Steam.
Re:VER PROJECT -TOKYO- is set in modern bday Tokyo. Players will take on the role of Yukinori, a talent agency manager who has been falsely accused of murder. He must navigate and survive the Tokyo streets to clear his name. Players must also help protect Hinagi, a nationally popular high school female idol who becomes sick after being caught up in the same incident.
In their press release developer Nestopi Co., Ltd., describe the story as an “original suspense adventure, about ‘survival life in modern Tokyo.’” Players will “explore Tokyo’s famous spots such as Shinjuku and Shibuya, as well as old neighborhood areas with a traditional atmosphere, which are all drawn in a beautiful pixel art style.”
In Re:VER PROJECT -TOKYO- players will survive in the streets of Tokyo, dodge police, surveillance, and public attention; collecting and creating items like food, drinks, and key tools; and finding clues throughout the city to clear Yukinori’s name. The game also involves protecting high school idol Hinagi as the release states “life-threatening dangers are around every corner for both of them.”
With Re: VER PROJECT -TOKYO- the focus seems to be its pixelated visual style surrounded in real Tokyo settings. With this blend Toei Animation and Nestopi are pushing forward with a suspense narrative. The title may draw on these elements to create something fresh for fans of the adventure genre. It will be interesting to see how players receive this blend when the title fully releases.
