It’s been a while since we’ve heard or seen anything in regards to Housemarque’s Returnal, but at The Game Awards we got two new new things to see. We finally got to see some gameplay of the game, and not only that, but a release date to boot. Returnal will launch for the PlayStation 5 next year on March 19, 2021.

While the date may have been leaked ahead of time, it doesn’t take away from the breathtaking trailer that we saw. The game will be a third-person action shooter, with elements of a rogue-like to boot. It also combines these mechanics with elements of the horror genre, which only adds to the depth and variety of the gameplay.
We see the main character, a space scout known as Selene, take on numerous enemies while she narrates her never-ending journey on how she continues to do the same thing everyday. Her main objective is to try and find a way out of the loop that she’s stuck in, although how she’s going to do this is a mystery that we’ll have to find out. The action is crisp, clear, and looks amazing, and considering that it’s coming to the brand new PlayStation 5, it’s more than likely that the game will take advantage of the DualSense controller.
Returnal will officially launch on March 19, 2021 for the PlayStation 5.
