Publisher Rainy Frog and developer Rainy Night Creations have released a new release date trailer for their modern retro stealth action title Spy Drops. Gematsu reports that the title will release on Nintendo Switch and PC on July 31.

The setting of Spy Drops is a modern day world facing a global threat in an eco-terrorist organization that aims to disrupt all digital records,  to revert the world to a digital dark age. Players will assume the role of a member of an elite counter-terrorist spy team. Your goal is to neutralize the global eco-terrorist by infiltrating various strongholds and gathering intelligence.

Shared in Spy Drops press release “Mission layouts are randomly generated producing a tense gameplay experience as you never know what is around the next corner. Everyone’s game will be different..”

Spy Drops features PlayStation-era low-polygon 3D visuals with updated lighting, shadows, and effects. Missions feature objectives in infiltration, intel gathering, sabotage, and prisoner rescue. Players can gain additional experience for non lethal takedowns. Loadouts are customizable, and can be chosen before missions begin, with choices including drones, tasers, night vision and hacking tools. Levels feature real time lighting, shadows with changing day, weather effects and conditions. Three locations are featured within the title including military base, jungle and desert. The title features original character designs from Japanese studio ArtePiazza also known for their work on the Dragon Quest series and Romancing Saga.

Developer Rainy Night Creations appears to be aiming for a nostalgic yet fresh stealth experience. With the emphasis on evoking the classic Playstation-era 3D stealth  and working with low-poly creations with modern effects the team may be able to appeal to classic stealth fans and people just craving something out of the box. Well know what the verdict is when the title is released July 31.
