Retro Game Crunch Hits Steam May 19

Shaun Inman, Rusty Moyher and Matt Grimm developers behind Retro Game Crunch, a compilation of 7 8-bit classic-inspired games, announced that the game will launch via Steam May 19 after being Greenlit by the community. Retro Game Crunch arrived in March 4th on both PC and MAC via Humble Store for $14.99.

Retro Game Crunch features puzzle adventure games, platformers, and shoot-’em-ups. The game that started it all for this compilation of games, was called Super Clew Land, which was thought of during a Ludum Dare game jam back in August 2012. The team, Moyher, Inman, and Grimm wanted to do more, which lead them to go towards Kickstarter to fund Retro Game Crunch, and it raised more than $66,000. The original plan was to make one game per month, but then there were delays, which lead to all the games ready at the end of December 2013 and had been released to the backers.

The Following games including the game that started it all, Super Clew Land, include:

  • Super Clew Land — A platformer that involves an evolution centered exploration. You will eat, and solve a matching game inside your belly in order to go towards the next level of your evolution and you will gain a new ability. You will  not only be doing a matching game but also collecting new food, which if you mess up in collecting new food, you’ll have to continue on until you come up to that piece that you missed before. It will take more time if you mess up and the game gives enough challenge to keep you interested.
  • End of Line — In this puzzle adventure game, it is all about outsmarting the repair bots, in order to kill yourself. This involves conveyors, pulling switches, and more. You will need to sometimes kill yourself to be able to go to a different location and this game is meant to be difficult, but not to the point you would rage quit.
  • GAIAttack! — This beat ’em up platformer game lets you play with up to four players. Fight together in order to destroy the pillaging Sky Pirates by jumping, attacking, and special moves to use against your foes.
  • Paradox Lost — In this metroid style game, you play as Abby, who has survived a plane crash and she is equipped with a gun that shoots time travel. The game takes you across three different eras to finally arrive at your destination.
  • Wub-Wub Wescue — This game is an early 80’s arcade platformer that involves you playing as a puppy that needs to survive and help rescue his master from the natives. You aren’t just any puppy that climbs ladders and jumps over traps, you also pick up songs that give you abilities like slowing down time.
  • Brains & Hearts — Whether playing with a friend or against the CPU, this game involves you playing a card game that takes place inside Albert Einstein’s dream. You have to try to line up number cards in sequential order.
  • Shūten — This samurai shoot ‘em up game lets you play single player or two player. You live in a village called Owari, and it is being trampled by the awoken ancient gods. You will need to take your sword in order to end them, while also grinding levels for gold.
