Last week, Capcom announced the Resident Evil showcase would take place today. During the event, the developers shared new footage and more details about the next game in the franchise, Resident Evil Village. Capcom also announced that the game will be releasing on May 7, 2021, for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, PC via Steam, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One. Players who get the game on PS4 can get the game on PlayStation 5 with a free digital upgrade. Resident Evil Village will also take part in Microsoft’s Smart Delivery program with Xbox so players who get the game on Xbox One can play the game on Xbox Series X|S.
The new footage and gameplay that was presented during the showcase was all about a mysterious castle and its residents. Dimitrescu castle is occupied by Lady Dimitrescu, the infamous tall lady from the reveal, as well as her three daughters. The footage also provided a spotlight as two other characters. “The Duke” is a merchant who you’ll be able to purchase weapons, items, and possible customization options. The other character remains a mystery, but he did leave quite an impression.
Combat in Resident Evil Village will require different approaches to the wide variety of foes that you’ll face. There are new ways to engage such as kicking away enemies to create space so you can either fight back or escape. Capcom also revealed that a demo is now available for PlayStation 5 owners. The demo, Maiden functions as a side story that takes place in the same world as Village. The demo revolves around a character known as the “maiden” as she tries to find a way out of Dimitrescu castle. Another separate, new demo will be released sometime this Spring
In celebration of Resident Evil’s 25th anniversary, Capcom has revealed Resident Evil Re:Verse, a brand new online multiplayer game featuring fan-favorite characters battling it out across familiar locations within the Resident Evil universe. More details will be revealed in the future but buying Resident Evil Village gets you a copy of Resident Evil Re:Verse for free. Capcom is also partnering with Ubisoft and The Division 2 with a special brand-new apparel event where players can earn outfits, weapon skins, and other rewards inspired by the Resident Evil series. The event is available from February 2-15.
Players can pre-order the game now. The Deluxe Edition of the game includes multiple bonus items such as a Samurai Edge weapon, the option to replace the save room music and typewriters with the ones used in Resident Evil 7: Biohazard, and other bonuses. The Collector’s Edition includes everything in the Deluxe Edition plus a Chris Redfield statue, poster, artbook, and a SteelBook case in a special Collector’s Edition box.
