Resident Evil and VR fans we have some good news for you. According to IGN, Resident Evil 4 VR officially has a release date, next month on October 21. The VR-only title will be arriving just in time for Halloween, adding to the already excellent library of horror genre titles that are played during this time. However, there is one major tidbit that everyone needs to know regarding this VR port. The game will be available exclusively for the Oculus Quest 2, which is Facebook’s proprietary VR gaming headset.

Resident Evil 4 VR, which is being developed by Armature, has been somewhat re-purposed for VR. While this isn’t a complete reimagining like Resident Evil 2 Remake was, it’s still the very same design and narrative that was on the original when it launched for the GameCube in 2005. The most obvious change is the perspective, as you’ll be playing in a first-person view as opposed to the well-known third-person over-the-shoulder mechanic. You’ll be able to interact with the weapons and items in your hand, and your health will be displayed on your wristwatch. The game allows you to move in full motion as well as teleport into rooms, a first for the series.
There is one aspect that will not change for the VR mechanics. The cutscenes are all still presented in their original format, and the famous, or infamous quick time events will apparently work the same as before. As we already mentioned, this game will only be available on the Oculus Quest 2. This is quite a departure for Facebook, as the company has allowed most of its VR titles to run on both the Oculus Quest and Oculus Quest 2. However, Resident Evil 4 VR will only work on the second iteration of their VR headset. In short, if you own the Oculus Quest, you probably shouldn’t pick this up, as you won’t be able to play it.
