On Monday, Capcom hosted an event revealing upcoming additions to the company’s catalogue of content, Capcom Showcase 2022. Within Capcom Showcase, Capcom unveiled a large swath of new content for the Resident Evil series, most notably a remake of fan-favorite, innovative Resident Evil 4. In the gameplay trailer, Capcom displayed a new mechanic: the ability to aim while walking. Furthermore, the ganado has been completely remodeled and Resident Evil 4 Remake will have new “modern flourishes”, similar to Resident Evil 2 Remake.
Additionally, Capcom revealed to fans of the most recent title in the Resident Evil series, Resident Evil Village, that they will finally receive DLC for the 2021 game: Shadows of Rose. The story will follow Ethan Winters’ daughter, Rose, 16 years after the events of Resident Evil Village; and the premise is that Rose, after struggling with her “terrifying powers”, enters the “consciousness of the Megamycete,” a place where “time and space are warped beyond recognition.” The story will be a qausi-sequel to Resident Evil Village, and unlike the main game, will take place in third-person. The Shadows of Rose will release on October 28, under the Winters’ Expansion Pack.
On top of Shadows of Rose, the Winters’ Expansion Pack is updating Resident Evil Village with new content as well. First, Resident Evil Village players will be given the option to play the game in a third-person mode, previously only first-person. Next, the expansion pack will also include The Mercenaries: Additional Orders, updating the “arcade-like action shooting experience with additional stages and new playable characters.” The new characters are the iconic Chris Redfield; Karl Heisenberg, “who wields a giant hammer and possesses the ability to control magnetic forces”; and Resident Evil Village fan-favorite, Lady Alcina Dimitrescu.
Lastly, the Winter’s Expansion Pack will also officially launch Resident Evil Re:Verse, the online multiplayer game originally set to launch alongside Resident Evil Village. Resident Evil Re:Verse “is a six-player PvP deathmatch game that puts players in the shoes of characters from across the Resident Evil series.”
Finally, Resident Evil 2 Remake, Resident Evil 3 Remake, and Resident 7: Biohazard, all received free next-gen upgrades on the day of Capcom Showcase. Each title was released on last-gen consoles (PS4/Xbox One), but will now be supported on next-gen consoles (PS5/Xbox Series X/S). The free upgrades includes new features, such as: support for 4K, high frame rate, ray tracing, and 3D audio.
