It looks like the cat might be out of the bag for Capcom on this one. Information tracking website Gamstat recently captured multiple new images that were uploaded to the PlayStation Network server, three of which look like they’re cover art for the rumored remake of Resident Evil 3. It’s also more than likely that this was going to be one of the company’s big reveals at the Jump Festa 2020 which takes place later this month. Another big venue where this will more than likely take place is The Game Awards which is next week. The files on the site have since been removed, but that’s a moot point as they’ve spread across the internet like wildfire.
As you can see in the above tweet, there appear to be at least three thumbnail art covers in place for the title. One aspect that all three share is that the famous, or infamous, monster Nemesis is on the cover for each one, which makes sense as he is the biggest eye popper on any of them. We also get to see the new models of main protagonists Jill Valentine and Carlos Oliveira. Another thing we observed was that two of the images have the title Biohazard Re:3. Biohazard is the original name of the franchise in it’s native Japan, whereas it’s known as Resident Evil in all other regions.
Either way you try and extrapolate this, the chances of the Remake being real have gone up exponentially. It’s also an easy choice for Capcom to make, as their most recent venture into the Remake territory with Resident Evil 2 was a resounding success to say the least. The game is up for numerous awards at The Game Awards including Game of the Year. On top of that, it already bagged the Ultimate Game of the Year award at the Golden Joysticks last month.
RE3 wasn’t the only thing that was taken from this leak. We also got a sneak peak at the cover art for Capcom’s other franchise spin off title, Project Resistance. Apparently now known as Resident Evil: Resistance, the title will be multiplayer game where four players will fight to survive and escape the clutches of another player who will try and prevent them from leaving. The game’s initial reveal didn’t go very well, but it looks like Capcom is sticking to their guns and keeping the game as is. As of this writing, the company has not made any comment on these leaks, but with The Game Awards and the Jump Festa 2020 coming very soon, we won’t be waiting long to hear about either.
