Report – Xbox App Update May Include Games From Other PC Game Storefronts Like Steam & Epic Games Store

Xbox has been changing its plans and focus over the past few years, trying to spread themselves wherever and however they can. As they and the video game industry seemingly gears up for the next generation, one thing Xbox wants to do is to bring the best of Xbox and Windows together. This specific focus would go towards their rumored headheld plans. Now, a new image that Microsoft posted and removed of a new Xbox UI may have showcased how things will look in the future and how Xbox is bringing it and Microsoft together.

The image of a new Xbox UI across multiple devices seems to imply that players will be able to see all of their games across multiple PC storefronts including Steam and Epic Games Store. The image shows the new UI on a TV, tablet, and a handheld with a Steam label. GOG also does this where players can see what games they own on PC across multiple launchers.

The Verge reports that sources familar with Microsoft’s plans say that they are currently working on an Xbox app update that will show every game that is installed on a PC. This will include games from Steam and Epic Games Store. The Verge says that Microsoft will label these games accordingly.

According to sources, the Xbox app update is still in the early stages. Xbox Chief Phil Spencer has hinted that PC stores like Epic Games Store and Itch.io could come to Xbox consoles one day and this seems like a first step towards that.

Talking about their plans for 2025, Leo Olebe, VP of Global Partnerships, said “As we look toward 2025 and beyond, Xbox remains dedicated to expanding gaming accessibility across devices, simplifying development workflows for creators, and delivering seamless experiences across all screens. Our goal remains consistent—to ensure gamers can engage with the content they love, exactly how and where they choose. We’re aiming for a billion open doors leading to a truly global audience. Let’s make it happen together.”
