As we inch closer to the eventual release of Sony’s PS Plus Premium, more information seems to be trickling out. In new report from Game Developer, the publication claims that according to its sources, Sony will be asking developers to provide timed game trials for their IPs for the Premium tier of the subscription service. In the post, it states that studios working on a title that will have an MSRP higher than $34 will be required to create a timed demo that must be at least two hours long. This policy will apparently not apply retroactively to older titles or PSVR titles.
In addition, these trials will apparently need to be available for Premium users for at least 12 months. It’s also important to note that these trials will not replace demos or weekend sessions for specific titles, as developers are still expected to have those ready for users too. The report also mentions that Sony won’t require the studio have a times trial ready right away, as they can release it well after the IP has launched. This works in favor for both the consumer and the company, as players can now check out a title potentially before or after it releases to see if they want to commit.
As of this writing, nothing has been confirmed by either Sony or any developer making titles for the PlayStation brand. So while this all sounds extremely exciting, we should still take this with some grain of salt, as anything could change before the updates service launches this June. Still, with such little time left before then, we also would not be surprised if Sony does unveil some more information for us in this regard.
