An interesting development has apparently been occurring behind the scenes with two of the biggest fighting game studios in the industry. According to a report from Video Game Chronicles, SNK Producer and Director Yauyuki Oda, who has spoken with the publication, has stated that SNK and Capcom are interested in reuniting with special collaboration titles, also known as Capcom Vs SNK, or SNK Vs Capcom. When asked about a new potential entry, Oda more or less states that it’s going to happen at some point. “Definitely in the future, that’s something that I think everybody on all sides, in both parties, are interested in making a reality.”
Oda mentions the fan reactions to the EVO 2022 posters by SNK/Capcom and how the positive reception confirmed to him that there is still high interest in a collaboration

Oda goes on to mention that the inspiration to revisit the spin-off series was due to the special EVO 2022 poster selling out very quickly. These posters were the Welcome Back to EVO signs that contained fighters from both Capcom and SNK franchises at the same time. “It helped us reconfirm that that is probably one of the most wanted things from the fighting game community across the entire world,” Oda said. However, when pressed on if there has been any discussion in regards to this, Oda admits that no such talks have taken place.
Oda at least gave us some optimism on how long the fans would have to wait before seeing a new crossover entry. “20 years is definitely too long for me. We’ll try and get it done in 10!” His tongue-in-cheek humor notwithstanding, Oda refers to the fact that it has indeed been a while since 2006 to be exact. From 1999 to 2006, Capcom and SNK together produced five fighting titles that included some of their signature characters. The most popular of these was arguably Capcom Vs SNK 2: Mark of the Millennium, which released back in August 2001 and has also been the subject of fans’ desires to see it brought to modern systems and PC.
While this would be an extremely welcome and beloved project, it’s unfortunately not a terribly likely scenario at the moment. Both companies are hard at work with several IPs, especially in the fighting game genre. SNK just announced that they’ve revived the Fatal Fury/Garou franchise and with a new entry currently in development and is being spearheaded by Oda himself. Meanwhile, Capcom is deep into development with Street Fighter 6, which we actually had the chance to play this past Summer. If there is going to be any sort of collaboration between Capcom and SNK, it’s more than likely going to come at a much later timeframe.
