Earlier this year, Giant Bomb’s Jeff Grubb reported that PlayStation would release another PlayStation Showcase sometime before E3. Now, Grubb is reporting that the Showcase will happen near the end of the month on the week of May 25. VGC reports that the event would take place at the end of the month, or in early June, ahead of the other big summertime gaming events planned for next month. No official announcement from PlayStation has been made yet.

The PlayStation Showcase would kickstart a slew of gaming events. Summer Game Fest is returning for its fourth year with a live show on Thursday, June 8, 2023. Then during that weekend, the Xbox Game Showcase and Starfield Direct are taking place on June 11, 2023. On June 12, following its departure from the now-canceled E3 2023, Ubisoft will have another Ubisoft Forward presentation.
Talking about why E3 2023 was canceled this year, ESA President & CEO Stanley Pierre-Louis said “First, several companies have reported that the timeline for game development has been altered since the start of the COVID pandemic. Second, economic headwinds have caused several companies to reassess how they invest in large marketing events. And third, companies are starting to experiment with how to find the right balance between in-person events and digital marketing opportunities.”
Both PlayStation and Nintendo previously confirmed that they would be skipping this year’s E3 prior to the event’s cancelation. Nintendo announced that it would be returning to Gamescom this year. They also announced the return of Nintendo Live, the in-person event for fans of all ages. Nintendo Live will be making its U.S. debut at the same time during PAX West which is taking place September 1-4. Registration for both events begins on May 31.
