Report: Beyond Good and Evil 2 Still Exists, in “Early Development”

It’s been a while since we last heard anything in regards to Ubisoft’s Beyond Good and Evil 2. The title, which is still going through an infamous development process, is still apparently not terribly close to being finished. According to a report from Insider GamingBeyond Good and Evil 2 is still in “early development” while also adding “development is underway and the team is hard at work to deliver on its ambitious promise.” For a title that was initially revealed way back in 2008, this does not bode well for a potential chance of seeing it released in the foreseeable future. If anything, it’s most likely going to be a while before we ever see it on out televisions/monitors.

The most recent tidbit of any major information we received for the title was in 2018 when Ubisoft unveiled brand new trailer. Ever since then, the company has been fairly quiet in terms of actual development. Every other piece of news that has come about since has been from leaks to publications, all of which have not helped the title’s overall situation. The most recent and perhaps the most telling piece of news was just last month, when Beyond Good and Evil 2 broke a major industry milestone. After officially being in development hell for more than 15 years, the game now has the distinction of having the longest game development time in history, beating out Duke Nukem Forever, which in an of itself is an insane feat.

In 2018, Ubisoft also showed select publications a build of what they described as “AAA game on ultra-low settings” Now in 2022, and with this new bit of information, it’s hard to imagine that Ubisoft has made great strides with the title at this point. Hopefully the company will find a way to get the development going on this title, and hopefully we’ll have an actual update in the foreseeable future.
