Report: A Horizon Zero Dawn Remaster/Remake, Multiplayer Game Is In Development

A new report has revealed that PlayStation may look to be continuing The Last of Us remake trend, this time with another popular IP. Mp1st reports that a Horizon Zero Dawn remake/remaster for PlayStation 5 is in the works. It’s also been reported that a Horizon multiplayer game is also in development.

It is still unclear if its in the vein of The Last of Us Part 1, a “built from the ground up” remake or The Last of Us Remastered, an upgraded version of the same game getting ported to a different platform. According to the report, the remake/remaster will feature an improved lighting system (ambient occlusion, and more), overhauled textures, and better animations. The game will have new character models to match those found in Horizon Forbidden West, the sequel released earlier this year.

In addition, the Horizon Zero Dawn remaster/remake will bring the accessibility options that are now typically found in PlayStation Studios titles. Different graphical modes will be available to choose from. Quality of life improvements found in Forbidden West will also appear in the Zero Dawn remaster/remake.

According to mp1st, “the Horizon Zero Dawn remake/remaster will bring it closer to Forbidden West, from improved textures, draw distance. character models, to even new and improved animations, and much more. Whether it’s on the scale as The Last of Us Part 1 Remake, is not known at this time.

The Horizon online multiplayer game is in development for both the PS5 and PC. Sources have verified that the project is real. There is not much known about the game at this time but a form of co-op may be featured. Customization for the multiplayer game may revolve around the different tribes from the Horizon franchise but this and whether or not the game will feature co-op or PvP has not been verified yet.

VGC has reported that Guerilla Games has long intended to expand the Horizon series into the multiplayer space. Sources had previously told us that co-op was first planned for the original Horizon game but was ultimately scrapped so the development team could focus on other areas of the title.
