Remedy Entertainment Regains Publishing Rights To Alan Wake

Today, a new report detailed from Global Newswire has stated that the publishing rights for Alan Wake have gone back to Remedy Entertainment, the original developers of the game.  The report says “for its first half-year period of 2019, Remedy Entertainment Plc records approximately 2.5 million euros of royalties from previously released games as one-time income. The royalties are paid to Remedy during the second half-year period of 2019. In relation to this, the publishing rights of Alan Wake games are reverted to Remedy.”

Remedy has made a statement about the news teasing that they may make Alan Wake available for other platforms in the future, but right now, their focus is on their upcoming game, Control. A Remedy Spokesperson said “The only thing we want to clarify, now that Remedy owns the publishing rights, is that we could bring Alan Wake to different platforms if we so choose. We have nothing to announce for now. We are fully focused on Control releasing on 27th August. Don’t expect to hear anything more on Alan Wake until after then – but it sounds as if a PlayStation release is on the cards.”

Alan Wake has gone through several situations recently. In 2017, it had to be taken off digital distribution stores because of an issue with music licenses. Last year, Microsoft helped put an end to that issue which allowed Alan Wake to once again be available for purchase on digital distribution stores like Steam. The game was also taken off the Xbox store for the same issue but was available for purchase again as well. A TV adaptation was also announced for Alan Wake. Remedy announced a partnership with writer Peter Calloway with Sam Lake, Creative Director at Remedy, serving as Executive Producer. We’ll have to wait and see if a sequel to the game will be coming after this news.
