Remedy Entertainment has been busy these past couple of weeks. During Sony’s E3 2018 Press Conference, they debuted a brand new IP, Control, which has a lot of people excited to play it. However, there is a void that has been left in the hearts of many fans (myself included) regarding the future about one of their other franchises, Alan Wake. The game was released back in 2010, with DLC releasing the same year, so fans have been more than ready for a full fledged sequel.
Dualshockers.com had a sit down interview with Remedy Entertainment’s Michael Kasurinen where they talked about Control. However, they also brought up how Alan Wake could potentially see another entry in the series. When asked about it, Kasurinen replied:
So we own the Alan Wake IP, yes. I just want to say right away that it’s very dear to us and close to our hearts. We all love Alan Wake at Remedy and I think all of us want to see a new Alan Wake game. I just want to say that out loud. Unfortunately, I can’t speak to it anymore than that. We’ll see what happens with Alan Wake next but we all want to see it happen, absolutely.
While that isn’t a lot to go on, the fact that they actually own the IP gives them absolute freedom to make a new game in the series if they ever wished to do so. The last time we heard anything of a new Alan Wake game was the spin off game, Alan Wakes American Nightmare, which released in 2012. While the fans may have enjoyed it, it wasn’t a true sequel. Those who have played the original game know of the cliffhanger ending (in the main game and the DLC) that left the fans salivating for a continuation of the story. Fast forward to the Summer of 2018 and were still giving Remedy the puppy eyes asking for a sequel.
For the time being, Remedy is fully committed to Control, which has a tentative release for 2019 on the PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC. They haven’t ruled out another Alan Wake, but for now, we will need to sit and continue to wait.
