The latest entry to Konami’s wildly successful Metal Gear Solid series, The Phantom Pain, will be arriving worldwide for all platforms on September 1, 2015.
The announcement was going to be made on the game’s official website later today through a video release, but someone apparently leaked said video to IGN a day early. A screen capture by a NeoGAF member shows that the video concludes with The Phantom Pain’s September 1 release date.
The news is sure to bring quite a bit of joy to fans of the series, who were given a tease of this fifth Metal Gear Solid game last year with Metal Gear Solid 5: Ground Zeroes, a prologue game to The Phantom Pain that contained only a couple of hours of gameplay.
The Phantom Pain will see players take on the role of Big Boss, the predecessor to the series’s titular Solid Snake. Taking place immediately after the events of Ground Zeroes, Big Boss, or Venom Snake as he’s known at the time, is recovering following the annihilation of the organization he worked for, Militaires Sans Frontieres. Snake sets out to find the culprits responsible, and along the way encounters familiar MGS characters as well as new faces, such as a mute female sniper rather aptly named Quiet.
Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain will be available for the PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4, Xbox 360, Xbox One, and PC.
