Following the disappointing launch of Redfall, Arkane’s latest title, the developer and publisher Bethesda vowed to make changes to the game to get it in a better place. A majority of those changes come with the recent release of Game Update 2. The new update is available now and brings performance mode (60 FPS) to Xbox Series X|S, expanded controller settings and customization options, increased open-world population, and more.
This comes following Bethesda’s Head of Publishing, Pete Hines’ comments regarding the game’s terrible launch.
“Okay, we didn’t get the start we wanted, but it’s still a fun game, and we’re going to keep working on it. We’re going to do 60 frames per second,” Hines said. “We’re going to get it to be a good game because we know, as a first-party studio, Game Pass lives forever. There will be people ten years from now who are going to join Game Pass, and Redfall will be there.”
Arkane noted some of the biggest things coming to Redfall with Update 2. “This patch brings a Performance Mode to Xbox Series X|S, stealth takedowns, new controller settings, Accessibility improvements, and much more. Explore an even more dangerous Redfall with an increased open-world enemy population and new encounters.”
There was a lot of criticism against Redfall. Some of the main things that everyone kept talking about was how bad the enemy AI was, the empty open-world, and the lack of a stealth takedown which seems odd considering it’s a staple of Arkane games, and the game’s performance.
Arkane addressed each of the big problems that everyone had. Players can now sneak up and take down unaware Cultists & Bellwether enemies with staked weapons. The game will feature more enemies in the open world and mission encounters have been balanced accordingly. To address enemy AI, they will now reposition to avoid friendly fire.
