Following the release of Grand Theft Auto: The Trilogy – The Definitive Version, there was a rumor that Rockstar Games was working on new remasters for Grand Theft Auto IV and Red Dead Redemption. However, following the poor launch of Grand Theft Auto: The Trilogy – The Definitive Edition, those games were shelved. Now, a new rating from the Korean Ratings Board may have revealed that a Red Dead Redemption Remaster could be coming in the near future.
Gematsu reports that the Game Rating and Administration Committee of Korea published new rating for Red Dead Redemption earlier this month on June 15. The new rating, classified CC-NV-230615-001, is separate from the original version of the game, the Undead Nightmare Collection, and the GOTY Edition. The “NV” in the code refers to console games but that doesn’t mean a PC version is off the table. PC games are classified with “NP.”
Rockstar Games has not officially announced a Red Dead Redemption Remaster but there have been rumors that it has been in the works. The first rumor suggested that Rockstar Games decided not to proceed with the project following the poor launch of the remastered versions of Grand Theft Auto III, Vice City, and San Andreas. The second rumor suggested that Rockstar Games decided to shelve the Red Dead Redemption Remaster and a Grand Theft Auto IV Remaster. According to the second rumor, these ports wouldn’t be released until after the launch of Grand Theft Auto VI. Following what is considered to be one of the biggest leaks in gaming history with 50 minutes of footage from over 90 videos released online, report earlier this year suggests that the next GTA could be released as early as next year. No official announcement has been made as of yet.
This is not the first time games were leaked by the Game Rating and Administration Committee of Korea. Both the Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 Campaign Remastered and a Lego Football game were rated before their official announcements. Plus, both God of War Ragnarok and Marvel Midnight Suns got rated by the South Korea Ratings Board six months before their respective release dates last year.
