Red Dead Redemption II on PC Launches for Steam on December 5

When Read Dead Redemption II finally made its way to PC earlier this month, it was only available through Rockstar’s new Game Launcher, and the Epic Games Store. This was met some criticism, as the majority of PC players use Valve’s Steam, the largest PC digital retailer on the market. Thankfully, Rockstar promised that the open world western title would be released on Steam later this year, and now we know when. The company announced today that Red Dead Redemption II will launch for Steam next week on December 5.

The announcement couldn’t have come any sooner, as the games initial launch on PC did not go well. Rockstar has been working on addressing and fixing these issues over the past few weeks, although some problems still persist. Releasing the game through Steam won’t necessarily fix those problems, but having it available alongside the largest game library in the world is good sign. The game isn’t unplayable by any means, it just needs some fine tuning for better optimization. The developer actually just released a huge patch that fixes numerous crash errors, which is just in time for the Steam release.

The game will be added to Steam right after the annual Steam Autumn Sales conclude, which makes us little sad as we would love to have seen it on sale right off the bat. Still, there’s no doubt that a lot of PC players have been waiting for this day, avoiding the Rockstar Game Launcher as well as the Epic Games Store in the process. Red Dead Redemption II will be launching on the same week as another highly anticipated PC port, Halo: Reachwhich comes out a couple days sooner on December 3. Needless to say, next week will be a big week for the PC gaming community.
