Red Dead Redemption 2 is Official, Set to Come Out Fall 2017

This morning, Rockstar dropped big news about the many rumors that had been surrounding the sequel to one of their most successful games ever, Red Dead Redemption. According to their official website and their Twitter feed, Rockstar will bring the long-awaited sequel to gamers worldwide the Fall of 2017.

A trailer for the game is set to launch this Thursday, October 20th at 11 a.m. ET. According to their press release, the game’s sequel will be worked on by developers of previous Rockstar hits like Grand Theft Auto V and Red Dead Redemption. It will offer players a new online multiplayer experience. Rockstar’s website details the game as the following:

An epic tale of life in America’s unforgiving heartland, the game’s vast and atmospheric world will also provide the foundation for a brand new online multiplayer experience.

However, no further details regarding the game’s gameplay have been offered by Rockstar at this moment. But, as previously reported rumors have stated, a domain name for Red Dead Online was previously discovered, bringing up a similar comparison many have been making: Grand Theft Auto V’s multiplayer mode, GTA Online, which, according to Gamespot, has brought in over $500 million.

Sam Houser, Rockstar founder, stated that

With Red Dead Redemption 2, the team is working hard to push forward our vision for interactive entertainment in a truly living world. We hope to deliver players an epic experience that bulids upon everything we’ve learned making games.

It’s been six year since the first Red Dead Redemption was released, selling over 13 million copies across the Xbox 360 and PS3. The first game was not, however, released for PC. And Rockstar’s announcement for the sequel did not state that the game will be coming to PCs (yet).

According to Gamespot, shares for the parent company of Rockstar, Take-Two, went up this past week, seemingly over the hype of Red Dead Redemption’s sequel being announced. Its clear many fans have been waiting for this game for a long time. The game, so far, has been confirmed to be released for the Xbox One and the PS4.
