At last years E3 2014, Insomniac announced a Ratchet & Clank remake for the Playstation 4 much to the delight of fans who’ve been clamoring for a new game in the series for years. Alongside that announcement came a teaser for an animated Ratchet & Clank film and now today the film has just released its first trailer.
The trailer features the series namesakes Ratchet and Clank meeting for the first time and will focus on their quest to stop Chairman Drek from destroying the Solana Galaxy. Other characters from the games, such as Dr. Nefarious (pre-Robot form) and Captain Qwark, are also heavily featured. Various weapons and gadgets from the games (the Sheepinator) make cameos. The planet hopping mechanism used in the games is also heavily hinted at.
Original voice actors from the series also come back to reprise their roles including James Arnold Taylor as Ratchet, David Kaye as Clank, Armin Shimerman as Dr. Nefarious, and Jim Ward as Captain Qwark. Hollywood stars Paul Giamatti (Straight Outta Compton), John Goodman (Monsters, Inc.), Bella Thorne (My Own Worst Enemy), Rosario Dawson (Sin City), and Sylvester Stallone (The Expendables) are all attached to the film as well.
Ratchet & Clank is slated for release on August 29, 2016. The script is written by TJ Fixman, former writer for Insomniac and senior writer on many games in the series. Film is directed by Jericca Cleland and Kevin Munroe.
The remake for the original game is planned for release alongside the film.
