Platforming fans rejoice! The Ratchet and Clank Collection that graced the PS3 in 2012 is now making its gun-running rail-sliding way to your Vita.
Though a US release date has yet to be announced, The Ratchet and Clank Collection (also known as Ratchet and Clank HD Trilogy) will be gracing the shelves of retailers in Europe and Australia in early July, giving the handheld another much-needed title to enhance its slowly improving library.
The collection features three games from the long-running series: Ratchet and Clank, Ratchet and Clank: Going Commando, and Ratchet and Clank: Up Your Arsenal. All three titles were originally built for Sony’s PS2, where they received critical acclaim and still maintain a strong following of loyal players. With their recent successful re-release on PS3, the series was a natural choice for porting over to the Vita.
While the series was originally created by developers Insomniac Games, the porting job is being handled by Mass Media, the same company responsible for the recent Jak and Daxter HD port to PS3. This is in contrast with the PS3 Ratchet and Clank Collection, which was handled by Idol Minds. While trophy support has been confirmed, information on additional features for the collection is currently scarce.
Players familiar with the series can enjoy a blast from the past, revisiting some of their favorite characters and locales with the convenience of the Vita’s pick up and go capabilities taking the action wherever you want it. Meanwhile, newcomers will have access to one of the PS2 generation’s best platforming franchises in the palm of their hand. The series’ action is of the platforming shooter type, but is often broken up by segments on hover boards, grind rails, and even vehicles. The games are known for their creative art and weapon design, and reviews of the PS3 ports proved that the games’ design formula works just as well today as it did on their initial release. With three meaty titles packed into the collection, gamers can be sure to find plenty to entertain them for their money.
The Ratchet and Clank Collection releases in Europe on July 2 followed closely by an Australian release on July 9. Pricing is €29.99 and the title will be available both as a retail release and a digital download. While no US release date or pricing information has yet to be announced, our hopes are high for more news soon on when we will be able to grab this collection for ourselves.
