Publisher Digital Vortex and developer Troglobyte Games have just released a release date trailer for their co-operative base-building survival action game RailGods of Hysteria. The game is set to release in Steam’s Early Access program on April 23. Gematsu reports that a full release will be made available for the PlayStation 5 and PC and that it will feature wide language support; including English, French, Italian, German, Spanish (Spain), Portuguese (Brazil), Polish, Turkish, Russian, Japanese, Korean, and Simplified Chinese.
RailGods of Hysteria is set in a nightmarish post-apocalyptic world along the remnants of corrupted railways. You assume the role of a Dreamer, a survivor tasked with navigating this dangerous landscape. You’ll battle eldritch horrors and fanatical cultists while unlocking your Godkeeper abilities.
The Maelstrom Hold interviewed Saverio Caporusso and asked what it was like designing creatures for a HP Lovecraft style story, Caporusso answered “…some creatures they were easy to imagine like you know undead undead mutants but anyway the other creature were let’s say taking one to one from the Lovecraftian narrative so like expect to have rat things and some other creatures which are more vague of course we took our take on this description and other one, we had the we took the liberty to create our own creatures and the and enemies…”
RailGods of Hysteria features enhanced projectile mechanics and a streamlined item management system. The early access build features refined combat reactions and a madness system wherein each Lovecraftian horror you encounter will cause a distorted perception of reality. Storage can be linked across carriages, allowing players to consolidate resources. Four to five players can play cooperatively.
What sets this particular survival action game apart is its commitment to its Lovecraftian horror elements; It appears that the developers are nurturing a sense of dread unlike your of run-the-mill horror game by generating a world that will keep players on edge. We’ll have to see how this all fairs when the title releases this April.
