Semiwork, the developer behind the co-op horror game R.E.P.O., put out a video in their usual quirky style wrapping up 2025 and announcing more content to come for the game. It’s been a roller coaster of a year for their development team, and as community manager Pontus Sundström states in the video, R.E.P.O.’s release earlier this February saved their studio from bankruptcy. In a short segment, the studio takes the time to thank the game’s community for their passion and involvement in the game, and shares some heartwarming footage of the dev team celebrating their success. Hundreds of thousands of players at one point were all screaming through R.E.P.O. together this year in the game, and though it wasn’t nominated for any categories at The Game Awards, it was a standout release for many nonetheless, and has landed a finalist position for Steam’s “Better with Friends” Award as well as “Biggest Indie” in Discord’s Checkpoint 2025.
Sentimentality aside, there’s some juicy content coming up for R.E.P.O. fans next year. According to the video, the next major addition to the game is adding cosmetics among other havoc-wreaking gadgets and quality of life changes. The developer has previously covered that the cosmetics are unlocked 100% in game with zero microtransactions, although any sort of metaprogression will likely not arrive until after the 1.0 release of the game. Good news on that note, by the way, as it is confirmed that the full launch of R.E.P.O. will arrive in 2026. But there’s lots to look forward to before then. In the video, Semiwork showed off progress on the new scooters they’re adding, which brings vehicular violence to the tight corridors of the game, enabling drifting around and ramming into enemies. Also, they’re introducing a “long requested” item; walkie-talkies! It’s a perfect addition to a game with pretty short-range proximity chat, and will no doubt be a prime pick at R.E.P.O.’s shop–which is also getting a minor tweak. Players previously were restricted spending their hard earned in-game cash to whatever the randomly spawned upgrades were, but no longer, as there will be a re-roll feature coming soon. And last but not least, as seen in the mock TV advertisement section–the kind that you’d see in the meager hours of the morning–you’ll be able to purchase a leafblower that can knock things around. That sounds sort of underwhelming, however those who have played before will know that even the smallest change to the environment can set off a Rube-Goldberg machine that leads to disaster for you and your friends. For all of this, you’ll have to wait until the new year, as Semiwork is taking a well-deserved holiday break.
