PUBG Creator Brendan Greene Will Deliver Opening Keynote for PAX East

PUBG is still one of the most popular games on the market right now, so popular even that it released mobile version of its game. Its creator, Brendan Greene, was not always in the limelight. To start off PAX East 2018, Greene will deliver the opening keynote on his journey with game development.

The opening keynote will mainly be about Greene’s five-year trek from making mods for ARMA II to being in the creative director’s seat for Steam’s third best-selling game. With over 35 million copies sold on both Steam and Xbox One, Greene’s success has been insurmountable. “Brendan Greene’s story is a fascinating one, and PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds is only the latest chapter,” says Penny Arcade Expo’s co-founder, Jerry Holkins. With such a story, the creative director will open up the expo in the same fashion that the likes of XCOM designer Jake Solomon, The Witness creator Jonathan Blow, and Telltale Games co-founders Kevin Bruner and Dan Connors have in previous years.

To bring the uninitiated up to speed, Brendan Greene, more popularly known in the community as PlayerUnknown, got his footing as an AMRA II modder, and he created the popular DayZ mod, DayZ: Battle Royale. Many of the same elements from DayZ: Battle Royale are apparent in PUBG. Dozens of players must fight to the death, and the last one standing wins. This gametype concept later went on to be picked up by SOE, and it was eventually turned into the H1Z1 King of the Hill gametype. Shortly afterwards, Greene ended up leaving SOE for greener pastures. He was contacted by Korean company to develop new battle royale game, and the rest is history. Brendan Greene’s opening keynote will go more in depth with his story, and will also enlighten us on his life as a developer.

PAX East will run from April 5 – 8 in Boston, MA. Tickets are currently only available for April 5 and April 8, so time is running out to register. PAX East 2018 will also have livestreams through Twitch for those who cannot attend.
