With the Xbox Games Showcase happening today Double Fine gave fans new trailer for their upcoming game Psychonauts 2. Even though the title has been delayed until 2021, it will now be available for Xbox One, PlayStation 4, PC, and Xbox Series X. As a part of Microsoft’s first-party gaming contracts, Psychonauts 2 will also be available to download on the first day of its release with the Xbox Game Pass. Due to Microsoft acquiring Double Fine after the game was already announced for PlayStation 4, this will be the only game by this developer on the system (as anything else in the future from Double Fine is expected to be exclusive to Xbox).
Along with this announcement, Double Fine also had comedian Jack Black (who also voices the character Mote of Light) sing a new song developed for the game. This song is to accompany Raz’s journey through a newly revealed level, that resembles nothing short of a psychedelic trip. As it seems, however, many fans were excited by the newly released trailer as Psychonauts 2 was trending on Twitter for over four hours after the showcase.
Originally set to be launched in 2019, the game was initially delayed and announced at the coming year’s E3 convention that it would be seeing its release in 2020. In a most recent tweet from the company, they cite the obstacles they had to overcome due to the pandemic being the reason for the game’s second delay.
Like every title shown int eh Microsoft live stream today, Psychonauts 2 will feature optimization through Smart Delivery. The story for Psychonauts 2 revolves around Razputin “Raz Aquato as he “unravels dark mysteries about the Psychonauts team and his own family origins”.
