After the E3 presence from Double Fine Productions hyped the release of the highly-anticipated Psychonauts 2, a recent post by the company on Fig shared the sad news that the game’s release date will be pushed once again. Originally slated for a 2018 release, then a late 2019 release, Double Fine has now announced that Psychonauts 2 will be released in 2020, though without a definitive date set. The post did, however, share 15-minute video chronicling Double Fine’s E3 experience, which you can check out below.
As per the usual reasons that release dates get pushed for games, Double Fine wants to make sure they’re releasing a quality sequel to the critically acclaimed Psychonauts. The studio hopes that their fans will be understanding stay patient. “We know it’s always disappointing when you have to wait a bit longer, but we also know that you are an amazing, supportive bunch, who – just like us – want the game to be as good as possible. So we’re hopeful you’ll understand! <3,” reads the post.
After Double Fine was acquired by Microsoft last month, questions begin to rise about the game’s release on other platforms, including the PS4, as originally intended. Have no fear! Psychonauts 2 will still release on all platforms as planned. “We have confirmed that we will be able to honor Psychonauts 2 for every platform that we have already promised here, and that includes bringing the game to PlayStation 4!”
The rest of the post detailed Double Fine’s E3 experience and talked about their Coliseum panel with Jack Black, who will be voicing a character as well as singing a song for the game. According to the post, the panel video will allow fans a bit of a deeper look at the gameplay used for their latest trailer, as well as a snippet of Black in the studio recording the song. As an added bonus, the company also shared a Psychonauts 2 desktop wallpaper (which you can download here), and briefly touched upon their other game, RAD, which will be “coming to PC and all consoles” on August 20, 2019.
