PSVR2 Sells Near 600,00 Units Sony Officially Reveals

Sony has officially revealed its PSVR2 sales in their Business Segment Meeting today, with sales of 600,000 sold in the first six weeks after launch on February 22nd. The announcement also comes hours before Sony’s PlayStation Showcase premiering later today May 24th at 1pm PT / 4pm ET / 7pm GMT. The current numbers for the PSVR2 show a higher demand only by 8% compared to the original PSVR during the same time frame. Sony went on to indicate that more games would be coming to the PSVR2 such as Resident Evil 4, Beat Saber, Green Hell VR, and many more that will likely be revealed later today during the PlayStation Showcase.

PlayStationVR2 has been in a strange limbo since its release in late February. Previously Bloomberg reported that Sony had high expectations for the headset, expecting near 2 million units to sell at launch. Sony denied Bloomberg’s report, but cut back it’s estimates to 1.5 million. The headset priced at $550 has been tough buy for consumers currently, with economic uncertainty, inflation, and VR still yet to catch on in the broader consumer market, Sony’s PSVR2 still has a ways to go to prove itself. Previously for the original PSVR, it only took 5 months to attain one million units. Currently only the Meta Quest 2 remains the most popular VR headset. Apple is rumored to join in on the VR race with long speculated headset to be announced at WWDC in June. Whether it will also catch on for consumers, and in any way impact sales for PSVR2 will show in the months ahead.

Currently PSVR2 launched with a decent lineup of titles, Sony touted exclusives such as Horizon Call of the Mountain, Gran Truism 7 and Resident Evil Village as definitive PSVR2 experiences, with most other launch games being indie titles.
