After months of rumors and speculation, the PS Neo is finally out for the world to see. As expected, Sony officially unveiled its upgraded console during the PlayStation Conference earlier today. The device’s official title is the PS4 Pro and has a lot more to offer under the hood.
Kotaku released a graphic detailing what’s inside the console.
Sony’s President and Global CEO Andrew House talked about the console over on the PlayStation Blog.
Earlier reports suggested that the console would support 4K gaming as well as an upgraded CPU and GPU, which ended up being true. The Pro will also have HDR (High Dynamic Range) and a smoother frame rate. According to Kotaku, the console will be able to play all normal PS4 games. Some older PS4 games like Uncharted 4 will be getting an update making it look much nicer on the Pro. Other unreleased games like Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare, Days Gone, Horizon: Zero Dawn, and Mass Effect: Andromeda will look better on the console as well.
House goes on to explain that even if you don’t own a 4K TV the Pro provides a number of benefits. Games played on the Pro will run in 1080p resolution and will run at higher, more stable, frame rates. Strangely, according to Polygon, one thing to the new PS4 won’t be able to do is play 4K Blu-rays, something that the Xbox One S can already do.
The PS Pro is designed to sit alongside the original PS4 and the new slimmer model that was also announced today, so fans that own the original won’t have to worry about being left out in the cold.
Much like the original PS4, the PS4 Pro will cost $399 and will be released on November 11th. You can pre-order the console at Amazon, Gamestop, and Best Buy.
