PS4 Gets Price Drop

Sony announced today that the retail price on the Playstation 4 will drop in both the US and Canada. Gamers won’t even have to wait that long as Sony has said the price drop will be effective starting tomorrow October 9.

The price drop will see the Playstation 4 drop from $399.99 down to $349.99 in the US; a $50 reduction. In Canada the console, priced at $449.99 CAD, will be marked down to $429.99 CAD.

A few days earlier retail giant Target leaked an image hinting at the Playstation 4 price drop as reported by IGN. The official announcement of the price drop comes a little less than a month after Sony announced a drop in the consoles price in Japan at the pre-TGS Playstation keynote from ¥39,980 to ¥34,980; about the equivalent to $50.

Along with the announcement came the new prices of several previously announced bundles set to release this holiday season. The lineup is listed below:

This move sets up Sony to compete directly with Microsoft in the final quarter of 2015. Microsoft had made the $50 price drop of their standard Xbox One system to $349.99 back in June while introducing a brand new 1 TB system priced at $399.99. With the Japan price drop in response to Microsoft’s move, a drop in price had been previously expected from Sony before this years Black Friday.
