PS4 4.00 Update To Allow Users To Create Folders, Upload Longer Videos, And More

Today on the PlayStation Blog, Vice President of PlayStation Brand Marketing John Koller wrote a post detailing what players can expect from the latest system update for the PS4.

The first biggest change comes to the system’s UI. Overall the look is the same but the changes are noticeable, as Koller says “UI remains the same — it just has a fresh coat of paint.” The update will come with new system backgrounds and a revised version of the “What’s New” tab. 4.00 also brings updated pop-up notifications and new system icons.

4.00 will change how the quick menu works too. Now when you press the PS Button on your controller the quick menu only takes up a portion of the screen making the menu quicker and easier to use. Through the Quick Menu players will now be able to access  “your party, Favorite Groups, Communities, and more.” Players will have the ability to customize the menu as they see fit as well.

As Twitch grows in popularity, more and more people are uploading videos for everyone to see. When the feature was first added, players had the option to upload ten-second clips to Twitch, which was pretty limiting. That was about enough time for a cool trick kill, but that’s it. The latest update increases that length to 140 seconds – roughly 2:30 for those who don’t want to do the math. That’s not the only change coming to the Share Menu. The menu will now save the last social media site you posted to eliminating the hassle of choosing the same site with each upload.

Folders are the latest feature to be added. With folders, users can now organize the PS4’s content launcher, that bar that appears on the game’s home screen. The Library is going to be more streamlined as well. Players can organize their library by purchase date, install status and more.

Trophies can now be viewed offline, and Sony is changing how Hidden Trophies work. Instead of just seeing that there is a Hidden Trophy the player can see the Trophy’s name and info making it easier for players to “platinum” games.

Lastly, User Profiles will be getting a makeover. Profiles will now put the most relevant info, like trophy progress, front-and-center. Koller also says that players will be able to set a background to their profile.

The 4.00 update will be available to the people in the public beta program soon. As for everyone else, we will have to wait for the update to be released to the general public. The exact release date is still up in the air, but according to Koller, more info will be revealed in the coming weeks.
