PS VR Turns One, Over 60 Titles Lined Up for Coming Months

Sony joined the realm of virtual reality one year ago with the introduction of PlayStation VR, a parallel platform that runs on a mix of PS4 and PS VR hardware with its own game library.

In the year since its release, over one million gamers have picked up the virtual reality platform according to Sony Interactive Entertainment America President Shawn Layden in a PlayStation Blog post marking the anniversary. The 100+ game library continues to grow as over 60 titles expected to release in the coming months until early 2018. With an expanding audience and more games on the near horizon, Layden is hopeful for PS VR’s future.

“PlayStation VR was designed to open a doorway into thrilling and captivating new worlds that electrify our senses,” he wrote. “We are confident that virtual reality is the next step in the evolution of the videogame medium, with a collection of … experiences designed to make your synapses fire, your heart race, and your muscles twitch.”

Leyden also wrote that the “best and brightest” developers helped solidify PS VR’s offerings that “rivals” the PS4’s expansive collection. A second blog post by PlayStation Marketing Vice President Mary Yee detailed the PS VR lineup, adding to the current catalog “ranging from the delightful to the horrifying and just about everything in between.”

Some of the major titles include Doom VFRThe Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim VR and Gran Turismo Sport, which all release before 2017’s end. A full list of releases for the end of 2017 and start of 2018 can be found below.

Anthony Martinez: Video games have been part of my life for as long as I can remember. My first was The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time on the Nintendo 64. I imagined that I would someday be creating games, but I've decided video game journalism is my calling. I graduated from California State University, Northridge in 2017 with a Bachelor's in Journalism and a minor in Anthropology.
