Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time Remake, originally planned to be launched on March 18 of this year, is now set to be launched in 2022. Ubisoft, one of the developers of the franchise, confirmed via Prince of Persia’s Twitter account that the game wouldn’t be making an appearance this year. Unfortunately, this news isn’t out of the ordinary for the remake as its development has been getting delayed since the initial trailer was released in September of last year. Here’s was Ubisoft had to say:

The delay of the newest installment in the Prince of Persia series has been faced with backlash as gamers have been anticipating the launch of this game for a while now. Ubisoft delayed the original released date of January to March 18 late last year. Then in February, as the March date crept closer, the developer delayed the game once again stating that the remake would launch at a later date. Ubisoft’s first delay was attributed to the COVID-19 pandemic, while the latter was due to the developer feeling like the remake wasn’t authentic enough nor “fresh” enough.
Many fans of the franchise were hoping for Prince of Persia: The Sand of Time Remake to make an appearance at this year’s Ubisoft Forward E3 2021 showcase. As much as fans would have loved to see this long-awaited game on the list for the event, Ubisoft’s E3 show still looks fairly well as beloved titles like Far Cry 6 and Rainbow Six Extraction have been confirmed. We’re also expecting to hear from the developers about the future of The Division 2 and the upcoming series f2P spinoff The Division: Heartland.

Even though Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time Remake gains two extra years to its development, we hope that the added time will ensure that the nostalgia and the foundational structure of the iconic franchise are maintained.
