The Alters was released on Friday, June 13, 2025, and it has gotten rave reviews from the vast majority of those who have played it. The game was both published and developed by 11 bit studios, and was released to the PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC. For those who may not know, The Alters is a sci-fi, survival, action, and strategy game which takes place on a hostile planet, where the main character crash landed, and the goal of the game is to form a crew in order to survive. This should not be a surprise, as 11 bit studios is known for creating action, strategic, and survival-style games, such as Frostpunk and Anomaly: Warzone Earth. Regarding the positive reviews and feedback, essentially all aspects of the game were praised, with players pointing to a good story, quality gameplay, and elite graphics. Regarding the story, it was described as ‘’captivating’’. In terms of gameplay, players appeared to really enjoy the open world nature of the game, and the map is said to have hours worth of items and events to discover. Along with the mostly positive reviews, it should be noted that some complaints were made, with most focused on the mechanics of the game. Some of these complaints included there not being a manual save, bugs occurring, and the game occasionally crashing. Along with this is the stress of having to maintain the game’s base that one player pointed out, though this is typically what comes with a survival based game.
