Yesterday, the Pokemon Company revealed their first venture into the multiplayer online battle arena world, with their newest upcoming game, Pokemon Unite. Many fans around the world become rather angered by this reveal, as it discounted all previous theories of what was going to be released yesterday in a way no one could have foreseen. According to IGN, the video has been so unpopular that it has received more than 170,000 dislikes, the most dislikes on the Pokemon Company Channel ever, and this is in just 24 hours.
Aside from the Pokemon Presents video receiving more than 170,000 dislikes, the standalone Pokemon Unite trailer has received over 55,000 dislikes as well, making it the channel’s second most disliked video. Both videos have received far more dislikes than likes, making this game’s reveal, arguably one of the most controversial in the history of Pokemon. Whether it will become a popular game once it releases or not is still up in the air.
Prior to the reveal, many fans had high hopes for a Let’s Go Johto or a Pokemon Diamond and Pokemon Pearl Remake, largely due to the plush Pokemon President Tsunekazu Ishihara had on the cabinet behind him on the June 17th Pokemon Presents, which many theorists believed were hints and confirmations of numerous theories. While many fans appear to be rather disappointed with the reveal of this new game, some do believe that it holds some promise.
Pokemon Unite brings numerous Pokemon from the series and places them in a five vs five top-down battle, with mechanics similar to League Of Legends, and a number of features from the mainline Pokemon series. The game is being developed by The Pokemon Company in collaboration with Tencent’s TiMi Studios and will be available for the Nintendo Switch. There is no release date in sight currently, but more information will likely be revealed at a later date.
