Pokemon Switch Game Won’t Be Out Until “2018 or Later”

Since Nintendo’s E3 announcement that an untitled Pokémon game would be coming to the Nintendo Switch, many fans of the monster catching series have been eagerly waiting for updates on anything from the game. The biggest question fans are asking is, of course, “when is the game coming out.” So far, Nintendo’s been very quiet about the whole thing, but according to a recent post on NeoGAF, it could still be quite a while before anyone is catching and training Pokémon on the Switch.

In a financial report released today, Nintendo listed a few release dates for some of their upcoming first-party titles on the Switch. Pokken Tournament DX is scheduled for release on September 22nd, Xenoblade Chronicles 2 is listed for a holiday 2017 release, and Metroid Prime 4 is sadly listed as “TBD.” As for the Pokémon game–which is referred to as “Pokémon RPG for Nintendo Switch”–it is scheduled to be released in “2018 or later.”

As for other Switch titles scheduled for release in 2018, there will be a Fire Emblem game, a Kirby game, and a new Yoshi game. Beyond the year, there are no specific release dates for these games.

In the aforementioned financial report, Nintendo announced that the fighting game Arms has now sold over a million copies worldwide. Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, and the Nintendo Switch itself continue to sell very well.

When this Pokémon RPG was announced at E3 last month, Nintendo said it would be a “core RPG,” suggesting it won’t simply be a port of Pokémon Sun and Moon, as had been previously rumored. Until that game comes out, Pokémon fans will have to content themselves with Pokken Tournament DX as well as Pokémon Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon, coming to the Nintendo 3DS this November 17th.
