So, Pokémon Sun and Moon is finally out and from the looks of the sales records both Nintendo and fans are thrilled about it. According to Game Informer, Sun and Moon have outsold previous entries X and Y. Not just outsold but literally crushed the previous record with a stunning eighty-five percent increase.
The last generation games sold over fifteen million units during the game’s entire lifetime and in the two weeks since the games came out Nintendo has already sold 3.7 million units and that is just in America. This makes Sun and Moon the fastest selling game in the region. Game Informer doesn’t say how the game did internationally, but that could be due to how Nintendo releases sale figures. As we’ve seen in the past with the sales for the re-release of Red, Blue, and Yellow on the eShop Nintendo doesn’t often release exact sales figures.
Despite the record-breaking sales, Nintendo has yet to sell their initial ten million units Game Informer says, but there is still Christmas. That ten million shipped units is a record in and of itself. That number is up almost one hundred and fifty percent from Pokémon X and Y.
If you are one of the literal millions playing the game why not check out the game’s first global event which tasks players with catching hundred million Pokémon between now and December 13th. Those who participate in the event will get one hundred festival coins and if the goal is reached everyone involved will get a thousand festival coins to use to buy various in-game items.
