Pokemon Go’s New Bug Out Event Is Underway

Pokemon Go’s newest event, titled “The Bug Out” is now playable until 10 PM on July 1st. This event gives Pokemon trainers the ability to catch many types of Bug Pokemon, along with the opportunity to catch shiny Pokemon and other types of rewards. Along with these Pokemon appearing in the wild, they will also appear in many types of Raid Battles (which are also appearing more frequently). Unfortunately (and updated on the official Pokemon Go website) there was supposed to be special Raid event featuring a shiny Pinsir, but it was canceled due to concerns with large groups and the COVID-19 pandemic.

Along with these, certain types of Bug Pokemon will also be available at certain times when lured out with an Incense, and Bug Type Pokemon eggs will hatch at 5km instead of the usual 10.  There will also be an event exclusive Field Research tasks to be completed for exclusive prizes and rewards. As told on the Pokemon Go website:

  • Players will earn twice the amount of XP for catching Pokemon.
  • Catching 7 Bug Type Pokemon will reward in a 1000 Dust
  • Catching 15 Bug Type Pokemon will reward in a Burmy
  • Hatching an egg will reward in a Scyther
  • Making 5 curveball throws will reward in a Pineco
  • Trading a Pokemon will reward in a Shelmet or Karrablast
  • Using three berries to catch Pokemon will reward in a Dweeble

The Bug Out is not the only event that Niantic plans to hold for Pokemon Go. Starting on July 3rd, there will be a series of weekly challenges leading up to the dates of Pokemon Go Fest 2020. Unlocking these challenges will reveal additional Pokemon to catch during the Go Fest weekend. As of now, there are also still plans to hold a Pokemon Go anniversary and summer events, but other than that no other details surrounding those events.
