According to Polygon, the massively anticipated launch of Japan’s native franchise, Pokémon and its current rendition, Pokémon GO, will be delayed another two weeks. The reason for such a delayed launch is simple: Niantic doesn’t have enough server coverage. This shouldn’t be much of a set back for Nintendo who has seen stock gains at an unprecedented level.
Niantic said in statement to Forbes, that they want to have the hit game available to Japanese players sooner than later.
Soon, if not by the end of July.
However, Pokémon GO faces an enormous challenge as they look to tap three of their biggest fanbases. Pokémon GO is set to release in China, South Korea, and as mentioned earlier, Japan. With these countries adding their maps to the mix, Niantic faces challenges on providing accurate map information as they might pose a security risk to those nations. With these hurdles, it seems Pokémon GO will have to get creative with not only server coverage, but also security.
Nintendo is pushing to release this game as widespread as possible because of the enormous gains it has received in the first two weeks of launch. The stock price is well over 50% and is set to soar as they are about to release the game to Asian markets.
Nintendo has gotta catch ’em all.
