The Pokémon Company International has announced a Pokémon Go Community Day for the month of June, featuring the sloth Pokémon, Slakoth, from the franchise’s 2002 GameBoy games, Pokémon Ruby and Pokémon Sapphire.
On Saturday, June 8, players will be able to catch more Slakoth and collect more Slakoth candy than usual. Players will also have the chance to encounter Shiny Slakoth for the first time, if they’re lucky.
Additionally, if players evolve Slakoth’s evolved form, Vigoroth, into Slaking during the event or up to one hour after the event ends, the newly evolved Slaking will know a special move, exclusive to the Community Day event, that it typically cannot learn. The Pokémon Company International has yet to announce what this special move is, but has promised they’ll reveal it soon.
Aside from the increased Slakoth and special move for Slaking, June’s Community Day offers other bonuses for players. Any Lure modules used by players will last for three hours rather than 30 minutes—typical of Community Day events. Players can also hatch Eggs in their incubator four times faster.
The Community Day will last from 3:00 PM to 6:00 PM local time on June 8, unlike past Community Days, which would occur for specific time periods in each region. Pokémon Go developer Niantic holds Community Days for the mobile title each month, hoping to encourage users to go out, play, and possibly meet up with other players in their area. Each Community Day features a different Pokémon with a special move that the featured Pokémon wouldn’t be able to learn otherwise. The Pokémon Company International encourages players to share their Community Day adventures with the hashtag #PokemonGOCommunityDay across all social media platforms.
In the meantime, though this month’s Community Day has passed, Pokémon Go is currently in the middle of week-long Extraordinary Raid Week event. Until May 28, new Pokémon will appear in the app as raid bosses and may be found in their Shiny forms, in addition to players receiving doubled amounts of Stardust and XP for participating in raids. Niantic has also recently announced items that allow players to evolve Eevee into Glaceon and Leafeon.
