Have you ever wanted to spend a day in a Shakespearean world of lies and betrayal? Then you may be interested in this upcoming Groundhog Day meets Hamlet creation. Golden Glitch Games is preparing to launch their first title, Elsinore. The studio finally released their launch trailer, and continue to showcase screenshots of gameplay on social media.
Elsinore is a point-and-click style adventure game which began in 2015 with its Kickstarter campaign. The project was met with incredible support. In about 48 hours, the campaign reached nearly 75% of its overall goal. The game was originally scheduled to be released in 2016 on Windows, Mac, and Linux. However, a possible reason behind the delay may have been to allow time to complete the various Stretch Goals reached from their campaign. The game is now expected to include additional areas of exploration, voice acting, new characters, animation improvements, and extra costumes for characters.
Players will be introduced to Ophelia, a young Danish noblewoman who has a frightening vision of a great tragedy to occur in four days. What is even worse is that she has somehow become trapped in a neverending time loop, forced to continuously relive the same four days. She will need to discover a way to prevent such a tragedy from happening. But how?
The goal of the game is to convince characters to alter their plans by presenting them with various pieces of “Hearsay & Evidence”. Players will be tasked with collecting as much information as possible. This includes gossip & rumors, learning secrets, journal entries, weapons, poison, and various other influential items. Pick and choose your actions and words carefully. Depending on your decisions, characters will alter their behavior, sometimes rapidly.
A normally kind and generous character may be driven to murder, and a dangerous character can be persuaded to lay down their sword. The right piece of information can even stop and ongoing massacre in its tracks.
Time may be your prison, but you can use it to your advantage. Ophelia will be able to remember and use anything revealed during the events of previous time loops. Use what she learns to alter the thoughts of those around her. Can you help Ophelia find the pathway that will save the castle from her vision?
Elsinore will be launched on the Steam Store next month, June 24th, for Windows and Mac players. No details have been released regarding possible Linux release as of yet.
