Pokémon Go Getting Online Player Battles In 2020

Yesterday, the Pokémon Go website made an announcement that Niantic is going to add new feature to the game in 2020. The company is spicing up their hit mobile game Pokémon Go by updating the battle system. According to Polygon, Pokémon Go is finally getting an online PvP system known as Go Battle League.

The new feature will not take away from the core component of Pokémon Go, which is to get out and explore the real world alongside your phone and your Pokémon. The Pokémon Go website states that, “Trainers will be able to walk in order to earn entry into the GO Battle League, then battle opponents from around the globe through an online matching system and rise in the ranks of the league. We hope this feature will make the Pokémon GO battling experience more competitive and accessible to more Trainers.” The statement seems to imply that the Go Battle League will also add a ranking system, which will, in turn, allow everyone to know who the very best is.

The month of November is also packed with events including a Regi Weekend. Trainers will have the opportunity to battle and catch the three Regis from November 1 at 1pm PST to November 4. Players will also have a chance to buy a ticket for the special EX raid for the Legendary Regigigas which will appear between 11am and 7pm in the local time zones on November 2. The Regigigas EX raid ticket will cost $7.99 and will only allow players to catch Regigigas only if they have caught Regirock, Registeel, and Regice. Participants will also receive a number of bonuses including a Collosal Discovery Medal, a Unova Stone, a Sinnoh Stone, as well as 10 additional Raid Passes from Gym Photo Discs, and an avatar pose at no cost. There is currently no more information on the online PvP system, however, Niantic stated that they would release a Developer Insight Video soon. The Go Battle League is set to release some time in early 2020.
