Playstation TV Discontinued in Japan

Remember the Playstation TV, SONY’s little streaming device that could play PS Vita games and stream PS4 games in a different room, sort of?  Well it looks like the streaming device didn’t go so well with Japanese consumers, as it’s been listed that the device will be discontinued in Japan.  Considering that the device sold disapointing 185,000 units in Japan, it’s no surprise SONY would pull the plug on it.  According to Dualshockers, the Playstation TV and the Playstation TV bundle with Dualshock 3 controller will no longer be restocked in Japanese retailers, although few units of the device are still available in stores.

However, the Playstation TV is still available for American consumers at this moment.  If you’ve wondering about getting the Playstation TV, you might want to act now before it’s too late.  Right now you can get the device on Amazon for about $50, which is honestly a really good deal for something that is essentially it’s own game console.  This price drop may also be a sign of the devices end in North American and European markets, but only time (and sales) will determine the fate of this device.

The Playstation TV was a neat idea, but it failed to reach a wider audience.  The device has some pretty glaring errors, such as many Vita games being incompatible with the device, and essential streaming services like Netflix and Hulu not working with it.  Not to mention that the PS4 streaming has a noticeable amount of lag.  Considering this, it’s still a good deal for $50.  While SONY has had some great long-term success with the PS3 and PS4, it’s hard to not notice some of their flops like the Vita, the Playstation Move, and now the Playstation TV.  Makes you wonder how the Playstation VR will do?
