Almost three years since Ghostrunner‘s initial release, publisher 505 Games partnered with developer One More Level to produce its sequel. During yesterday’s PlayStation Showcase livestream, Ghostrunner 2 was announced via a brief trailer. The trailer was Ghostrunner 2‘s official announcement, which gave Ghostrunner fans a glimpse into the sequel’s game mechanics.
Stephen Takowsky, Ghostrunner Community Manager at 505 Games, revealed more details through a PlayStation.Blog post. On Ghostrunner 2‘s difficulty, Takowsky commented, “While the first game certainly had some challenging bosses, the sequel takes it to the next level. Get ready to face off against some of the toughest opponents you’ve ever encountered in a video game.”
One of Ghostrunner 2’s newest features is Jack’s motorbike.
“Some levels that feature the motorbike are far more complex and open world than typical Ghostrunner levels. This means that you’ll have to use your wits and your skills to navigate through these levels, and you’ll have to always be on your toes,” Takowsky stated.
Players have new skills and Ultimate abilities at their disposal for enemy encounters. Ghostrunner 2‘s combat is designed to be more versatile through level design and enemy types. The game also contains non-combat features like a dialog system and a central HQ base of operations. Further, the developers modified the sequel’s progression system.
“The game progression system has been overhauled, allowing players to experiment in various ways. The interactive environment also includes exploding barrels, destructible walls, and more, which can be used by the player,” Takowsky explained. “The game now offers more ways to play, not just the campaign. This means that you can climb on the leaderboards and compete against your friends in new and exciting ways.”
Ghostrunner 2 continues Jack the Ghostrunner’s story. Set one year after the first Ghostrunner, the people of Dharma are rebuilding and commerce is flowing. However, a power vacuum ensues as deadlier enemies seek to conquer Dharma Tower. Ghostrunner 2 allows players to explore Dharma Tower alongside some new locations in the world of Ghostrunner.
Additional information is soon to come. Ghostrunner 2 is scheduled to release this year for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and Microsoft Windows.
