The monthly bundle of free games has long been one of the major selling points of PlayStation Plus, and the January lineup is no different. Available next month, the package is headlined by Deus Ex: Mankind Divided and the Batman series by Telltale Games.
Mankind Divided was released in 2016 and is the sequel to the award-winning Deus Ex: Human Revolution, which hit stores in 2011. The open-world action-RPG series has managed to stay relevant over the nearly 20 years since its first installment in 2000, even as Mankind Divided somewhat failed to live up to the acclaim of its predecessor. The install base for Human Revolution was massive, however—to the tune of 2.18 million in the West alone—so there are sure to be players willing to continue the story for free.
The inclusion of Batman: The Telltale Series should also be a boon to curious players. The entirety of the first season, released last year, is available to binge without having to wait for each individual episode to drop. While there are likely few players who need to be convinced of Telltale’s pedigree as far as story games go, free access to season one should drum up some extra enthusiasm for Batman: The Enemy Within, the ongoing second season that is currently awaiting its fourth episode.
Aside from the two heavy-hitters, the January package also features some worthwhile novelties. The VR-dependent arena dogfighter Starblood Arena is included, and considering many thought it would be better as budget title, going free should help entice people from the comparatively small pool of VR players. PS3 and Vita also received their monthly titles; PS3 owners can try out Sacred 3 and The Book of Unwritten Tales 2, while the Vita will get Psycho-Pass: Mandatory Happiness and Uncanny Valley—both of which also include Ps4 copies. Rounding out the lineup is the Booster Pack II Bundle for Warframe, available for loyalists who have stuck with the game since the PS4 launch.
Even though players will surely be spending their holiday cash on fresh new games, PS Plus is here to make sure your library stays stocked in the new year and beyond.
