Yesterday, PlayStation launched a new loyalty program for its playerbase: PlayStation Stars. According to PlayStation, this new initiative will celebrate player achievements “…with fun and delightful campaigns and the ability to earn rewards such as points and digital collectibles.” While the loyalty program is initially launching in Asian regions, PlayStation Stars will eventually make its way to a full global release before the year is over.
PlayStation Stars will grant members a wide range of benefits depending on status levels reflecting milestones reached. The higher member levels are, the more perks and benefits members can get, and members can stay at that level”…for the remainder of the calendar year plus an additional 13 months.” PlayStation Stars rewards are earned rewards by completing campaigns and activities. Campaigns like “Monthly Check-In” will reward members for playing any game while other campaigns will have them”…earn specific trophies, or even be among one of the first players to platinum a blockbuster title in their country/region.” PlayStation Stars rewards come in two types: loyalty points and digital collectibles.
Digital collectibles are digital renditions of things from Sony’s history including figurines of iconic characters from games and other forms of entertainment in Sony’s long history. The collectibles earned can be arranged on a display case within the PlayStation App for personal viewing or showcasing to others. While these collectibles are exclusive to the PlayStation Stars, Sony restated that they are no way affiliated with any blockchain technology (NFTs).
Loyalty Points can be earned through PSN wallet funds, exclusive digital collectibles and select PlayStation Store products. If a user is a PlayStation Plus member, they can earn points by purchasing on PlayStation Store. Points can redeem items in the Rewards Catalog, which includes digital collectibles, games, or digital PSN wallet funds. The points balance can be found on PlayStation Stars Points History under Player Profile on the PlayStation App.
After launching in Asia on September 29, PlayStation Stars will launch in North and South America on October 5, and finally Europe, Australia, and New Zealand on October 13. Player who are interested in the program will be delighted to know that its completely free to join. Simply have an adult account for PlayStation Network and accept the PlayStation Star’s Terms of Service from the PlayStation App on iOS and Android. A PlayStation Plus membership is not required, but those who have a membership will have benefits like earning points while purchasing on PlayStation Store, including each subscription payment for your PlayStation Plus membership.
