PlayStation Expands Preserving Internet Access To The United States

Earlier in the week, Sony Interactive Entertainment announced that they are working with internet service providers to preserve access to the internet for as many people as possible as it has become used more since the Coronavirus pandemic. Essentially what that means for the PlayStation Network is that game downloads would be slower and delayed. This was for Europe.  Sony Interactive Entertainment announced that it will be doing the same thing in the United States. Jim Ryan, President & CEO said:

Beginning today, we will take similar measures in the United States, and we will continue to take appropriate action to do our part to help ensure internet stability as this unprecedented situation continues to evolve. We are greatful for the role we play in helping deliver a sense of community and entertainment in these very trying times. Thank you again for your support, your patience, and for being part of the PlayStation community. Please stay home and stay safe.

Ever since the Coronavirus pandemic happened, a lot of things have been affected in the video game industry as more and more states gave the order to shelter at home. Companies and businesses have had to adjust to working from home. Developers and publishers are struggling to get physical copies of games out to customers on time as there is a larger focus on essential items. Another thing that the pandemic may affect in the industry is the release of the next generation of consoles.

Today, PlayStation said that PlayStation 5 is still set to launch this holiday. Speaking to GameSpot about the pandemics impact on game development, Microsoft says that no projects have been delayed but “each studio is facing unique challenges and constraints depending on its particular location, and many of our external development partners around the world are similarly affected.” So, both the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X are still on track to release this Holiday despite analysts suggesting that this wouldn’t be the case.
