PlayStation Direct Online Hardware Store Launches Today

Only a day after the State of Play video presentation, Sony Interactive Entertainment shared in PlayStation blog post that they have opened an online store, called PlayStation Direct, specifically for their hardware. Instead of going to a brick and mortar shop, customers will now be able to order PlayStation consoles, controllers, accessories and even physical copies of games right from the comfort of their own home. The store is live starting today.

According to the blog post, the store, while initially limited, will have products “ranging from PS4, PS4 Pro and PS VR systems and bundles, as well as headsets, DualShock 4 Wireless Controllers, PS VR accessories, a selection of physical games, and voucher codes for PS Plus subscriptions.” The store will launch with a small collection of games, including Days Gone, the Quantic Dream CollectionMarvel’s Spider-Man: Game of the Year Edition, and around fifteen more so far. More games will be added to the storefront in the future.

In addition to games, the store sells DualShock 4 controllers in a variety of colors, and the standard jet black comes with the Fortnite Neo Versa bundle (Neo Versa outfit, Neo Phrenzy Back Bling, and 500 V-Bucks). Gold and Platinum Wireless Headsets are also available from launch, as well as the PlayStation VR system and its accessories such as the Move controllers, camera, and Aim controller.

The store is also offering a launch promotion where customers can purchase either PS4 or PS4 Pro as well as a twelve-month PS Plus subscription with a slight discount over the regular retail price. Adding both to the cart will automatically trigger the discount. The promotion is currently running until October 31. As an added bonus, PS Plus members are also eligible to receive free 1-day shipping by signing in, so the wait isn’t too much longer than picking up the games or console in a store.

Customers can expect to find that “prices on the new store align with those found at other retailers.” Unfortunately, the PlayStation Direct store is only available to US customers, but should it find success, the company could consider expanding to other countries in the future.
