Playstation Boss Gives His Thoughts On The Nintendo Switch

Since the Nintendo Switch’s release this past March, it has sold extremely well even setting sales records for Nintendo hardware. Arguably the biggest selling point of the console is that it allows players to have the option to either play on a TV screen as well as on the go as a mobile gaming console. This could indeed lead some fans looking for other companies to follow suit with a hybrid company of their own. However, in light of some recent comments from Playstation boss Andrew House that might not be the case, at least for Sony anyway.

House stated to Bloomberg that from the perspective of the company a hybrid-style gaming system does not represent a “huge market opportunity” outside of Japan and Asia. During the interview he also went on to mention on how Sony’s handheld dedicated consoles like the PS Vita didn’t fair too well outside of the Japan and Asia due in part to the rise of smartphones. So it’s safe to say that a sequel or successor to the mobile console is unlikely to happen.

He explained, “The Vita experience was that outside of Japan and Asia, there was not a huge demand. The lifestyle shift toward the dominance of smartphones as the single key device that is always with you, was the determining factor” House also reaffirmed what Sony is taking aim for, “The folks at Nintendo have their strategy and that’s great. We remain focused around a highly connected gaming experience and also coupled with having a great range of other entertainment experiences so you can reach multiple people on the big screen in the household,” So it seems like fans shouldn’t expect any hybrid consoles from them any time soon.
